Can i have your perspective on this issue

I have come to know about YHR through my friend. I have heard a lot about the blog and felt I can learn a lot from you all. Since the matter is little serious I thought let me share a recent issue happened with one of my friend and understand the issues from different perspectives.
The issue was related to pay revision. My friend looked into factors like how the company was paying 100% hike to other members, how company selected experienced people from the industry but not very much experienced into the actual services that this organization is delivering, how freshers where given a good pay without even considering the training cost, etc. Looking all this aspects as well as the contribution across the verticals, my friend demanded almost 100% hike. Her responsibilities were in the area of research and create the tools. In her 2 yrs of her career she was rendering her support in almost all the projects with regard to tool building. Most of the tools that she prepared where good and it was being referred and used by other organization also. Earlier the organization used to outsource the tool but after her entrance slowly they were becoming independent.
Her boss and she had a difference of opinion and immediate boss clearly stated that the amount she is demanding cannot be paid. She was never being given any reason why her demand was wrong. She was very committed to the job but because of her outspoken nature she was not accepted by her boss. She brought in the organization many systems and added value to their services but all this aspects were just overlooked. She wrote mail to the MD (since there was no one above her immediate boss). To her surprise she got a mail from the MD that the organization is not the paymasters in the market. He didn’t even tried to look into the matters from her perspective and never initiated any steps to show his concern for the employee. He was the true dictator to her. He, infact wrote the mail to her that she should focus more on learning than in money making.
She sticked to her views as she was not convinced and told MD that she will resign from her job. He accepted the resignation but the mail was hurting her very much. He wished her all the best in her career and also wished her for better space, money and luxury in her newer endeavours.
She is so dejected after reading this mail because it was not the matter of increased money that she was highlighting but also she was talking about her contribution. I can say she is depressed after reading his mail, I have just written the list of the mail content.
Not to bias the reader’s let me write some cons of my friend: She was highly qualified and perceived as egoistic by her colleagues as she used to highlight her knowledge upfront. Her tools were of high standards which only when trained others can use it. More I would say that her acceptance to her boss and colleagues was not there.
I felt bad for the way the organization has looked at her. The organization talks big about empowerment, employee development, etc. but I doubt whether a little concern was shown by MD towards my friend. My question to you all is, whether MD has shown some concern to her contributions, to employee development, etc. May be her contributions are not satisfactory to him but why didn’t he clarify it to her? Why he stated that my friend is only after money? I suppose all the people including the MD wants money.
