Hi,
How to Deal With Attendance Management What can employers do to help employees cope with the pressures of today’s workplace and foster acceptable attendance? Ensure the workplace is as pleasant, safe and healthy as possible. Clearly communicate attendance expectations to all employees. Be a role model of good attendance. Provide education to employees outlining the importance of good attendance and provide information on company benefits available such as Employee Assistance or Early Intervention Programs. Open communication and employee involvement in decision making processes and the development of a team spirit. Investigate alternative work arrangements such as flexible schedules, staggered hours, job sharing, time off for personal commitments. Job enrichment Hold events recognizing employees for their contributions toward the organization’s success through good attendance. Invite guest speakers to your organization to talk about work-life balance or ways of reducing organizational stress. Confront attendance problems in a timely manner. Employees should be approached in a positive, concerned manner, using a factual approach. Be fair, impartial and consistent in attendance management practices. Provide employees with information on how they are doing as a whole (post days lost as a group on the bulletin board) and on an individually (counselling). Reward good attendance and assist those with poor attendance. A study at Memorial University in Newfoundland found that when employees were provided with neutral feedback (a letter indicating their attendance record for the past year and what the company average was) resulted in a reduction in days absent in the following year. |
