List of Important Duties of a Project Manager

Project manager is one person who is responsible for managing a project on the whole. There is a large variation in his duties and roles from one industry to another and one company to another. Hence, there is no such very specific list of duties that are performed by a project manager. But there are certain key HR duties and responsibilities which every project manager has to perform.

This article brings to you all those key duties which every project manager must perform in order to be successful. These set of duties are very much helpful for him in carrying our various other duties that he is expected to perform.

Planning

This is one of the most important duties of a project manager. It is for him to create a plan of action depending upon what needs to be accomplished, who will be working to accomplish the task and what are the requirements to make it happen. These are some of the planning areas in which he needs to be involved so that he is able to chart out everything using his planning skills. But it is not a onetime task but it goes on throughout the project. This is very important in bringing clarity in the project and its objectives so that the team can work with a clear state of mind and knows what it is suppose to do.

Organizing

This is another very essential duty that you have to perform as project manager. It is about undertaking all the tasks concerning your planning and creating a team structure accordingly so that all the tasks can be accomplished in a clean and clear manner. As a project manager, you are required to allot all different kinds of resources into various heads keeping in mind the structure of the company. You are required to identify different roles, positions and responsibilities. List out all the services that will be provided by external sources and also define a structure of your project team in order to bring clarity of roles one needs to perform.

Leading

Project Manager must be a good leader. He needs to know how to put his plan into execution so that he is able to achieve his project objectives. He needs to take all of his team together as one entity and motivate them to deliver the best of their performances in order to meet the objectives. For this, he needs to have soft skills like clarity in communication, ability to motivate his teammates, act as problem solver etc. Leading the team is very important to give directions to the team and assign tasks to each team member so that there is coordination in work.

Controlling

Another role that you are required to perform as the project manager is making sure that your project is meeting all the standards that you had set for it. It is very important to ensure at every step that your project is on track and work hard to keep it on the right path. To do that, you need to follow a simple process which includes three steps:

  1. Measure the performance
  2. Evaluate the performance by finding out causes for deviation from standards
  3. Taking corrective actions to alter deviations

What are the Different Duties That are Expected of a Personal Attendant

A personal attendant is a person who is suppose to take care of the elderly and all those who need direct personal care because of some health issue or any other reason. Also known as a personal care assistant, such a person is responsible for taking complete care of the health and well being of a person. Such a profile doesn’t need any special education apart from basic education along with knowledge about basic medical care and first aid. The only thing that helps such candidates perform their job is their passion.

As mentioned above, there is no formal education that is required for this position but if a person is educated it is always more beneficial. If you are planning to apply for the job of personal attendant then you must be aware about different duties that you will be expected to perform. Here is a list of all those duties which you will have to perform.

Various Duties of Personal Attendant

  • Daily Assistance to Client: To ensure complete safety and well being of the client for a comfortable living on day-to-day basis.
  • Maintaining Records and Reports: Keep a record of all the reports along with weekly and monthly progress from time to time.
  • Compliance with Health Acts: To be aware about the act and make sure that all services are in accordance with it.
  • Relationship Building: Have a positive relationship with the client and with his family.
  • Communicate and Coordinate with Healthcare Professionals: Stay in regular touch with the concerned doctor to inform him about the condition of the client as and when required.
  • Emergency Handling: Be efficient and mature in handling emergency situations with patient. Calling the right help as required and administering immediate care as needed.
  • Maintain Hygiene Levels: Ensure cleanliness at all times in all sorts.
  • Assist with Toileting: Help the client with toileting procedures as and when needed by the client
  • Assist with Skin and Hair Care: Helping the client maintain clean and healthy skin and hair as much possible.
  • Exercising and Medication: Take complete care of the exercising routines and medicine course of the client to ensure that he recovers fast. It is important for the personal attendant to ensure highest possible motor functioning for him. Follow all the instructions given by the doctor. Stay informed about the right dose, right time to ensure best health care.
  • Assist with Movement: Help client transfer from bed to wheelchair or any other mobile device for movement. Help him climb stair and other kinds of obstacles in movement.
  • Breathing Assistance: Make sure that client is supplied with respiratory assistance as and when needed to ensure comfortable breathing.
  • Follow Instructions on Positioning of Client: Follow all the instructions concerning the position of the client in bed, on chair etc. to ensure complete relaxation and reduce the possibility of problems like atrophy and bed sores.
  • Meals for Client: Buy groceries and prepare meals for the client as per specifications made by the doctor. Help him have the meal, if needed.
  • Accompany Client to Medical Appointments and Tests: Take the client to doctor for regular checkups and stay updated about the changes in his routine, food and medicines. Also take him for tests, as prescribed by doctor.
  • Keep a Check: If client is performing some harmful actions then intervene immediately and make sure that he doesn’t cause any harm to his health.

There are all sorts of small and big things that you need to take care of a personal attendant with the sole motive of well being of your client.

Expectations of Employers for Hospital Volunteer Duties

Hospital volunteer is a thoughtful profession. It is not something that is dependent on your educational qualifications but it is something that is dependent on your experience, understanding of needs of others and proactive approach towards everything that you do. Hospital volunteers cover a wide area of services which includes small gestures like playing music in the lobby of the hospital to something intense like working to make life easier for the patients.

The duties of a hospital volunteer have a wide range. They overlap with the duties of many professionals in the healthcare industry. If you are still in your high school and desire to make a career in this then you can easy have a large experience to make you successful. This is a beautiful profession for all those who wish to make charity and service as their career, who desire to do something good for others, who wish to make life easier for people who are suffering from various problems. This profession helps them bring comfort and happiness to the lives of many people.

There is no strict definition of the work you are required to do as a hospital volunteer as it is subjective to the department you are working in. but there are some qualities and skills that you are expected to have when you are in this profession. Here is a list of these expectations which employers will always have from you.

  • Warm Reception: You are always required to be warm to the guests and visitors. You must always wear a smile on your face.
  • File Management: You must be able to file the documents at the right place and retrieve them as and when needed.
  • Dealing with Trash: You should be able to take out trash as and when needed.
  • Information Sharing: Forwarding mails, passing on information and sharing details with concerned department and personnel is also a part of your duty.
  • Maintain Cleanliness: You are required to keep your work area neat and clean.
  • Visit with Patients: Take patients to doctors or for tests or for an outing in the garden. Just be with them
  • Guide Visitors: Be ready to guide the guests and visitors if they need directions in the campus.
  • Distribution of Goodies: Transport different items like books or newspapers to different departments and sections in the hospital.
  • Clean Patient Rooms: Maintain cleanliness in the rooms of the patients by cleaning trash, putting fresh bed sheets, changing towels etc.
  • Take Orders: Take orders from patients and nurses so that you can offer best care to the patients.
  • Office Work: Attend calls, maintain files, manage papers etc. and various other official things that are a part of office work.
  • Be Polite and Patient: You are required to be polite with the staff, patients and guests and act with patience.
  • Software Dealing: Should be able to work on the company software with ease. Learn different areas of working on it.
  • Cafeteria Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness in the cafeteria, lobbies etc.
  • Be Professional and Positive: Be positive, even in the most difficult times. Act with utmost professional while dealing with different situations.
  • Procurement: Procure different kinds of material from local vendors that are needed in the hospital on regular basis.
  • Maintain Records: Should be able to maintain all sorts of records and keep them updated.
  • Awareness: Be aware about the policies of the hospital along with policies of State Government, Federal Government and Center. Also ensure that all these policies are followed.
  • Food Refill: Refill food and water for patients as and when needed.
  • Offer Assistance: Like getting wheelchair or walkers for the patients when needed, helping them with the lift etc.
  • Prepare Meals: Must be able to make coffee, tea and other simple refreshments when needed.
  • Food Delivery: Should be able to deliver food to the patients as guided by the doctors without any delays or mistakes.

All these skills are very much necessary if you are a hospital volunteer. Your employer will always look for these qualities in you because they make you a perfect worker.
